Accommodation proposed for Gibbston Valley

Resource consent is being sought for Gibbston Valley Winery Cottages, a proposed cluster of 50 studio or single-bedroom accommodation units in eight buildings. The plan also calls for a communal building catering for guest recreation, weddings and the conference and incentive market. A tenth building would house the concierge and check-in facility.

Kopu Bridge wait a thing of the past

Built in 1927 and as much as an icon as it is a pain for travellers, The Coromandel’s one lane Kopu Bridge is about to be a thing of the past. A new two lane bridge will open before Christmas and there’s to be a public walk over on 10DEC.

Airport acquires International Antarctic Centre

The privately-owned International Antarctic Centre adjacent to the Deep Freeze base at Christchurch airport has been bought by the airport company and will change hands formally on 01DEC. Fairfax quotes Christchurch International Airport
Ltd chief executive Jim Boult as saying the acquisition was in line with the company’s strategic plan to increase non-aeronautical revenues and profit.

MANZ donates to Christchurch earthquake fund

The Motel Association of New Zealand (MANZ) has this week handed over a cheque for $12,250 to the Christchurch Earthquake Mayoral Relief Fund, the result of two days of fund-raising at its 2011 annual conference in Queenstown.

Swing into the lives, loves and music of 1931

The charter of a vintage DC3 will mark the launch “1931- The Show” at Rotorua’s Blue Baths. Put together to mark the 80th anniversary of the opening of the juvenile pool of the landmark Art Deco/ Spanish Mission building in December 1931, the show is “a celebration of the swing era when cats were cool, dames were peaches, and music was a way to forget Great Depression worries for a few hours.” Blue Baths managing director Mrs Jo Romanes says the theme warranted the DC3 charter for show-goers from the Auckland region as part of the Friday 09DEC opening night package.

WLG diners given free flights to WLG
