Hilton Lake Taupo now Qualmark Enviro-Gold
Two years after opening, Hilton Lake Taupo has been recognised with Qualmark New Zealand’s highest award for Environmental and Social Sustainability in Tourism. The Enviro Awards foster, recognise and reward innovative businesses that show a high degree of commitment to caring for their environment and community.
The Awards commend top performers in five key areas including energy efficiency, waste management, water conservation, community activities and conservation initiatives. Hotel Manager Clinton Farley says some of the credit must go to the Hilton Worldwide LightStay™ application, a system of measurement that calculates sustainability performance for each property, across a global portfolio of 3,800 hotels in 88 countries.
The system analyses performance across 200 operational practices, such as housekeeping, paper product usage, food waste, chemical storage, air quality, and transportation. It also provides a “meeting impact calculator” feature that calculates the environmental impact of any meeting or conference held at a property.
