Drivers Licence

All drivers should have held a valid drivers licence for five years or longer. A current acceptable overseas, New Zealand or International licence is required from all drivers. Overseas drivers with a non-English licence must carry an official accurate English translation or have an International Driving Permit. At the Manager's discretion, a holder of a licence for less than five years is acceptable but may incur a higher insurance excess.

Rental Duration

A 1 day hire is 24 hours from time of pick up. Additional hours are charged at 1/5 of the daily rate up to five hours and a full day thereafter. Payment is to be made at commencement of hire by cash, credit card or debit plus card (please note that a debit plus card cannot be imprinted to cover the insurance excess, you will need a credit card for this).

Tax

Goods and Services Tax (GST) is included in all daily hire prices.

Insurance

For drivers 21 years and over, the insurance excess (for both single vehicle and multi vehicle accidents) is NZ $1,500 + GST. Specialty vehicles may be subject to a higher excess. The multi vehicle excess may be reduced to NZ $250 + GST by paying an additional $16 per day (there is a minimum hire of 3 days to reduce the excess).   The single vehicle excess cannot be reduced.  Windscreen insurance is available at $6 per day or you can purchase an insurance waiver and windscreen insurance together for $20 per day.  Drivers under 21 are subject to a higher insurance excess and cannot reduce the excess.

Bond

A bond is required for all hires. A credit card imprint is taken on the rental agreement at the time of hire to cover the insurance excess.  If you don't have a credit card, a cash deposit may be acceptable (please enquire when making your booking).  The credit card imprint guarantees that the vehicle will be returned on time and in the condition that it was hired. We do not accept debit plus cards for a credit card imprint.

Early Returns

If you return your vehicle early you may not be entitled to a full refund of the unused hire period.

One Way Hires

Available to South Island locations.  Minimum hire days and one way fees apply.  Check our relocations page if you are looking for a short hire as we often have cars out of town that need returning to Nelson.

Child and Baby Seats

Child seats are compulsory on New Zealand roads (up to 5 years of age) and may be hired from our branch. Please order at time of booking stating age and weight of child so that the correct size seat may be booked.  We hire baby/child seats and booster seats.

Cancellations

Cancellations made within seven days of commencement of hire will incur a one day or 10% cancellation fee (whichever is the greater).  Cancellation fee may vary on specialist vehicles.
